My teaching philosophy is that every student learns at different levels and has unique skills and gifts to offer. Each student should be challenged to his or her utmost potential. An attentive and caring teacher will know each student’s potential. If given the opportunity, time, and patient attention, all students will succeed, not only in school but also in life. So many students graduate without knowing how to read, write, and do mathematics. When a student leaves school without the proper education, we fail the student and society. Special education should be collaboration between home and school, including a safe learning environment. Every student should have an equal chance, without fear of failing.
Classroom dynamics are a very important part of learning. Everyone in a classroom needs to treat each other as family would. A teacher builds the classroom culture in their classroom. A classroom needs to include a comradely feeling among classmates, where each is encouraging the other to learn.
Students learn in so many ways. Students learn visually through charts, models, and pictures. Students learn through auditory input, such as discussion, song, and read aloud. Students learn through kinesthetic input, such as moving, doing, and hands-on activities. Kinesthetic learners learn best if they are moving. A teacher needs to use a mix of all learning styles and can determine which one is plausible for each lesson.
Teaching is a highly-respected profession in society. A teacher should make a commitment to educating students. A teacher should believe in the worth of each of their students and treat them with dignity. A teacher should teach all points of view. A teacher needs to continually raise professional standards. An educator should constantly be improving their effectiveness through intensive instruction, aligned with the school culture and the student’s needs.
